Huntingdon Borough

Anticipating increased utility costs and facing stringent budget cuts, the Borough of Huntingdon contracted Matson Environmental to perform Preliminary Audit on a number of its facilities, including their:

  • Sewage Treatment Plant
  • Water Treatment Department
  • Municipal Building
  • Community Pool, and
  • Street Lighting

Preliminary Energy Audit

Matson Environmental performed a Preliminary Energy Audit for the Borough, which included:

  • Utility Bill Analyses for 4 of the facilities
  • Energy Star benchmarking for 3 of the facilities
  • Energy Conservation Measures for each facility, and
  • A walkthrough visit of each facility

Additionally, Matson Environmental assisted the Borough in the technical energy assessment for the PA Conservation Works! grant opportunity. With the Preliminary Audit, Matson Environmental identified 22 Energy Conservation Measures and seven Recommended Services for the Huntingdon Borough, including:

  • Variable Frequency Drives on pumps at the Sewage Treatment Plant
  • Diesel generator peak load shaving at the Sewage Treatment Plant
  • Lighting and HVAC upgrades at the Sewage Treatment Plant, Water Treatment Department, and Municipal Building
  • Solar pool heating and solar photovoltaics at the Community Pool
  • Replacing incandescent bulbs with CFLs at the local park

Grant Assistance

Matson Environmental provided a qualified Energy Assessment for the PA Conservation Works! Grant opportunity in August 2009. Qualifying projects were identified, and energy and pollutions savings were quantified.
Grant projects included:

  • A geothermal system at the Municipal Building
  • Boiler upgrade and increased insulation at the Water Treatment Plant
